According to new allegations from a informant, Ghislaine Maxwell, now completing a 20-year prison term for sex-trafficking crimes, is reportedly preparing a commutation application for review by the presidential administration.

Special Treatment Alleged at Correctional Facility

Congressional Democrats on the House judiciary committee announced that a whistleblower provided information indicating Maxwell is working on the commutation application. They also stated she has been receiving special treatment at the federal prison camp in the Lone Star State.

Congressman Jamie Raskin, the ranking member on the committee, declared in a news release that the prison’s warden was “helping” the convict with copying, printing, and sending documents to aid her effort for executive mercy.

Specific details of the clemency request are unknown, the congressman noted.

Alleged Privileges and Custom Arrangements

The representative claims that, per the insider, the prisoner has been given specially prepared food that are hand-delivered to her cell, and the warden has individually organized private meetings for Maxwell and her visitors.

These meetings reportedly involve a designated private space for attendees and a variety of food and drinks for her associates.

Those visiting Maxwell were also reportedly permitted to bring computers, which the congressman characterized as an “unprecedented action” given the security risk and chance of unmonitored communications.

Reportedly on one occasion, when communications failed for other prisoners, she was provided directions about who she should tell her associates to call and how staff would connect the communication to her.

Warden as “Personal Secretary”

The source also allegedly told congressional members that when Maxwell wanted to examine and modify papers “quickly”, she “essentially used” the warden as her private aide.

The statement states that Maxwell’s correspondents would email documents directly to the warden, who would hand them over to the inmate, who would review and edit them and return them to the warden to scan and provide to the original sender.

Additional Privileges Alleged

Further perks allegedly granted to her include opportunities to interact with a service dog puppy – a benefit not “ordinarily allowed” – as well as private after-hours access to the facility's gym.

Her legal counsel has not yet replied to a inquiry regarding the whistleblower’s claims.

Through a spokesperson, the White House said that it “will not discuss” on potential clemency requests.

“Per the President's remarks, pardoning the convict is not something he has thought about,” the spokesperson added.

Context and Developments

Over the weekend, it was reported that she told close associates in emails from prison that she was more content at the new prison than her previous prison.

This past summer, Maxwell was transferred from a secure facility in Tallahassee, Florida to the less restrictive prison in the state, where most detainees are incarcerated for non-violent offenses and white-collar crimes.

This move, which experts described as “unprecedented”, occurred just days after she was questioned about the Jeffrey Epstein investigation by the deputy attorney general, Todd Blanche, who also once acted as Donald Trump's private attorney.

That interview came as the Trump administration was facing increasing scrutiny to release more documents related to the Epstein investigation and amid intense speculation around the President's own personal ties to the disgraced financier and adjudicated criminal, who was found dead in a New York jail in that year while facing trial on trafficking accusations.

Lawmaker Reactions

In the news release, the congressman also announced that he had dispatched a communication to Trump, requesting explanations about the insider's claims, and urged the president to reject the clemency appeal.

“It would be inappropriate to approve any form of clemency to this convicted and unrepentant sex offender,” Raskin wrote in the letter. “Your Administration should not be providing her with personal amenities, with canine interaction, with government agents waiting on her every need, or with any preferential handling or facility benefit at all.”

The congressman asked that the official attend a public congressional hearing to discuss the revelations and also presented several inquiries to the President.

He inquired whether Trump had talked about a possible clemency for the convict with Blanche or others, whether he had directed him or anyone else to arrange her with the transfer or special conditions in detention, and whether Maxwell, her lawyers, relatives or representatives have made any commitments to Trump or his legal team.

The representative requested for a reply to the questions by the specified date.

Last month, the nation's highest court declined to hear an petition from the convict on her sex-trafficking conviction.
