Hurricane the storm is forecast to strengthen into a uncommon Category 5 hurricane as it turns in the direction of Jamaica, causing dangerous rapid inundation and mudslides.

This weather system, which had winds of up to 195 km/h as of 6:00 AM GMT, is now shifting toward the northwest in the Caribbean region and is expected to hit the coast by Tuesday, based on data from meteorological authorities.

Warnings of electricity outages and structural damage have been announced as Melissa brings up to thirty inches of precipitation and sea level surges as high as thirteen feet above ground. "Take cover without delay," residents have been advised.

This hurricane is the thirteenth storm in the current Atlantic season, which usually concludes in November.

Most Intense Cyclone Risk

A Category 5 hurricane is the most intense classification, with winds of at least 157mph.

While the hurricane is projected to weaken to a fourth-level storm before reaching Jamaica, meteorologists said there was "minimal real distinction in the overall impacts" upon making contact with land, and that the storm will be "at least that intensity" when it strikes the nation.

"Several days of destructive gusts and heavy rainfall are underway and will cause devastating and dangerous sudden floods and multiple landslides," urged weather authorities.

Jamaican Prime Minister the official stated: "I know that there are numerous residents who are anxious, who are deeply troubled, and appropriately: concern is justified.

"Yet the most effective method to handle nervousness and any apprehension and worry is to stay ready."

Locals are being advised to secure their homes with protective bags and timber panels, and to stock up on necessary supplies.

Regional Impact

Warnings are also active for areas in the neighboring country including the capital, Port au Prince, the neighboring country and the eastern part of Cuba, where this storm is expected to bring analogous consequences by the middle of next week.

Rock slides currently triggered by the storm have caused two deaths in Haiti, according to emergency services.

The hurricane is forecast to move across Cuba by the middle of the week before moving through the Antillas Mayores and emerging into the Atlantic.

By the moment it arrives at Cuba, it is predicted to have reduced to a Category 3 cyclone.
