Lando Norris Tops Oscar Piastri in Sao Paulo Practice
The British driver has outscored his teammate at each of the previous five grands prix.
The McLaren driver just pipped fellow driver and title rival Oscar Piastri for the top spot in the final moments of practice at the Sao Paulo Grand Prix.
The British racer, who seized the points lead from his teammate by one point after his victory in Mexico City a fortnight back, topped the Melbourne-born driver by a mere 0.023s.
Before then, Piastri had been the fastest McLaren driver during the running before sprint qualifying due at 6:30 PM GMT.
The Red Bull star, the only other driver in the championship fight, sitting 36 points Norris, was classified in P17 as his team followed a alternative strategy.
His teammate the Japanese driver was the only driver to crash, if briefly, when he rotated at Turn Four early in the session.
Tsunoda spun out over the exit kerbs before rotating through the run-off area, and was blessed to escape with just a minor contact of the fence.
The Ferrari of Lewis Hamilton also had a spin, at the very end of the session, spinning around through the high-speed Mergulho corner approaching the final bend on to the pit straight.
The seven-time champion ended the session in 19th place, one place behind teammate the Monegasque driver.
The McLaren drivers were well clear of the rest of the field, with the German's Sauber third fastest, 0.619secs off Piastri's pace.
Aston Martin's Fernando Alonso was in fourth, with Sauber's Gabriel Bortoleto in front of Mercedes' George Russell and Alpine's Pierre Gasly and the Williams of Sainz.
